Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk

The Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk was begun in 1981 by the Reverend J. Doane Stott and Mrs. Flora Belle Stott, a retired missionary couple who long supported CROP in its work to fight the root causes of hunger around the world.

Though modest in it's beginnings, the Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk quickly grew and in 1985, the Southeast Guilford and Northwest Guilford satellite walks were added. In 1989, one additional satellite walk was added in Brown Summit, bringing the Walk to its current size of one main walk with three satellite walks.

As the walk has grown over the years, the location has had to be changed as well. What once could be contained in Grimsley Stadium was moved to the War Memorial Stadium in the late 80's, to the Greensboro Coliseium in the early 90's, and finally to the NewBridge Bank Park in 2005 where the walk is still held and annually welcomes nearly 5,000 walkers.

Currently, the second largest walk in the nation, The Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk plans to continue to lead the nation in raising money to help end hunger domestically and around the world. Celebrating our 30th Anniversary in 2010, we hope to raise more money than ever before to help those less fortunate.
